Oxford Prep-Saddleback Valley Participates in One Billion Acts of Kindness

Oxford Prep-Saddleback Valley will join the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) in their efforts to encourage students, educators and community members to help reach a goal of registering one billion acts of kindness. Oxford Prep families are invited to complete and register acts of kindness at http://kindness1billion.org. An app is available for download (iOS/Android), making it simple and fun to contribute your acts to our countywide goal! Families are also encouraged to use #kindness1billion to share, inspire, and encourage others to get involved.

What constitutes an act of kindness? Well, that’s pretty much up to you. It could be as simple as picking up a discarded cup along the sidewalk or allowing a car to merge in front of you on a busy interchange. Or it could be more involved, like visiting a home for senior citizens, joining a beach clean-up or volunteering at a local animal shelter. More than anything, it’s about doing something kind with no expectations of reciprocity. We hope you’ll join this movement by sharing your acts on the Kindness1Billion site or on social media.

One Billion Acts of Kindness is an initiative created by the Orange County Department of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Al Mijares to improve school climates, promote character, and rally the community for greater civility.

Kindness as a campus priority: Oxford’s Choose Kind Program

Being kind is a choice we encourage all of our champions to make on a daily basis. Whether it be picking up a piece of trash or inviting a peer to eat lunch with them. Oxford Preparatory Academy-Saddleback has begun Choose Kind, a school wide program where students can volunteer to complete acts of kindness on campus and in our community.

Students who choose to participate in the Choose Kind program will be Kindness Ambassadors and/or Recess Rangers. Kindness Ambassadors will attend weekly meetings and complete acts of kindness on campus. Recess Rangers will also attend the weekly meetings and be part of a team of students who focus on inclusion of all students during recess and lunch.

Oxford’s Choose Kind Program meets every Tuesday during lunch in Honour Hall. All grades are invited to participate.
