News of the Week - November 4th - 8th, 2019: 

 

Good evening Champion families. This is Mr. Bridges with a look at the week ahead!

 

We would like to thank all of the parent volunteers for making our Literature Day special.  Your help and dedication make everyday at OPA special. Please make sure to visit our lost and found located at the front of the school.  All remaining items will be donated this Friday after school. November is the last month for a discount when purchasing a yearbook. Please click on the yearbook flyer link to order your yearbook today. Also,  the November lunch calendar is attached to the end of this message.

Monday, November 4th:

  • Champions, please wear formal uniforms. Due to the heat, uniform shorts are ok.
  • Monthly Assembly in Honour Hall run by our ASB Champions for grades 1-8
  • Honour Society Sponsored dine out event - Chipotle - El Toro Road from 4-8 PM - present the flyer below to get 33% donated back to our OPA-SV Honour Society

Tuesday, November 5th:

  • Regular uniform day. White or Teal polos with uniform bottoms or formal wear. 
  • Marching Band Club (for 4th-8th graders) in the Band room #101 from 7:30am - 8:15am.
  • Honour Choir Club (for TK-5th graders) in the Band room #101 from 3:30pm - 4:15pm.
  • Honour Society sponsored Drama Club will meet from 3:30pm - 4:30pm. 
  • Garden Club (for TK-8th graders) will meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month by the garden from 3:30pm - 4:15p
  • Academic Pentathlon Meetings:  Mondays & Thursdays, 3:30-4:30, Room 25 (for 6th-8th)

Wednesday, November 6th:

  • Spirit Wear Day! Champions may wear OPA spirit wear tops with Tuesday-Thursday uniform bottoms (No Jeans). 
  • Jazz Band Club (for 4th-8th graders) in the Band room #101 from 3:30pm - 4:15pm.
  • Math Olympiad (for 4th-8th graders) in Ms. Carnovale’s room #8 from 7:30 am - 8:25am 
  • E-Sports Club (for 6th-8th graders) in Honour Hall from 3:30pm - 5:00pm.  **E-Sports Club (for 3rd - 5th) will meet on 11/13 and 11/20. 
  • Math Olympiad (for 4th-8th graders) in Ms. Carnovale’s room #8 from 7:30 am - 8:25am 
  • Board Game Club (for TK-8th graders) will meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month in Ms. Nye’s room #P1 from 3:30 pm- 4:15pm. 
    • Board game donations are greatly appreciated. Donations may be dropped off to Ms. Nye or the Front Office 

Thursday, November 7th    

  • Regular uniform day. White or Teal polos with uniform bottoms or formal wear. 
  • Marching Band Club (for 4th-8th graders) in the Band room #101 from 7:30am - 8:15am. - CANCELLED
  • Art/Game Club (1st-5th graders) will meet at first recess on Thursdays at the lunch tables 
  • Art/Game Club (6th-8th graders) will meet at the lunch tables during middle school lunch
  • Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Club (for 6th-8th graders) in the Band room #101 during middle school lunch/recess at 12:45pm -1:15pm - CANCELLED
  • Kammermuski/Intermediate Strings Club (for 3rd-8th graders) in the Band room #101 from 3:30pm - 4:15pm.- CANCELLED
  • Academic Pentathlon Meetings:  Mondays & Thursdays, 3:30-4:30, Room 25 (for 6th-8th)

Friday, November 8th     

  • Regularly scheduled minimum day with 12:30pm dismissal. 
  • Champions may wear their university shirts, White or Teal polos, or formal wear with uniform bottoms 
  • Chancellor Chat in Honour Hall from 8:45am - 9:30am - All welcome! 
  • Guitar/Ukulele/Mandolin Club (for TK-8th graders) in Honour Hall from 7:30am - 8:15am - CANCELLED
  • Mileage Club (TK - 8th graders) will meet weekly on the backfield from 8:00am - 8:30 am on Friday mornings.  Parents/Guardians are welcome to walk/jog with their Champion(s)! 
  • Academic Chess Club - from 12:45pm -1:45pm in Rooms 3 and 8. Please see the flyer for pricing and registration information. Academic Chess Flyer
  • Honour Society $15,000 Rainbow Run Prize - Kona Ice Truck visiting OPA!

OPA Club Sign in/out Procedures:

 

To ensure the safety of our Champions, please carefully review and follow the club sign in/sign out procedures below. 

  • All parents/guardians must sign in their Champion(s) for clubs that take place before school 
  • TK and Kindergarten parents/guardians must sign in their Champion(s) for after school clubs
  • All Champions must be signed out of after school clubs from the classroom or location where the club is being held.
  • After school sports teams will be signed out in front of Honour Hall

Scripps’ National Spelling Bee: 

OPA will participate in the Scripps’ National Spelling Bee for the first time this year.  The National Spelling Bee is open to 3rd through 8thgraders.  The first step in the process is a classroom spelling bee.  The top two spellers from each classroom will participate in our school spelling bee on the evening of Wednesday, January 8th. Library Cards for grade 3-5 Champions:

There is still time for your 3-5th grade student to receive their very own Orange County Public Library Card.  Applications went home and are due no later than November 9. Please direct questions to Mrs. Williams at williams@oxfordchampions.com.

 

2019-2020 OPA-SV Yearbook:

 

The 2019-2020 Oxford Preparatory Academy-SV yearbook is now on sale. If you order by November 30th,  you will get 5% off of the regular price. This will be a 100-page full color yearbook that includes an option to add personalized pages to create a unique copy of your own personal yearbook.

BYOD Chromebook Information:

Any student wishing to bring their own personal Chromebook to school must go through the process of having the OPA management software installed on their Chromebook. If your Champion’s Chromebook has not gone through this process, please bring the Chromebook and the attached form to the front office.

Morning Drop-off and Pick-up Reminder: In an effort to be respectful neighbors to our community, and maintain student safety, we must be steadfast in our drop-off and pick-up routines. Let this serve as a gentle reminder to staff and parents, please do not make left-hand turns into the parking lot or drop-off lanes if you arrive to school from 8:15am-8:30am or during the afternoon for pick-up. Also, please do not park in any red zones or block our neighbors driveways, and follow the directions of school personnel during drop-off and pick-up. We appreciate your cooperation.

 

Drop-off time is 8:10am or LATER. If you need to drop your Champions off prior to 8:10am, the YMCA is available to watch your children. There is no supervision prior to 8:10 am and children should not be without a parent on campus at that time. All students must be picked up before 3:30 M-TH and before 12:45 on Fridays, unless they have an after school activity.

 

**Students arriving at school after 8:40am must be accompanied by a parent and signed in at the front office to receive a tardy slip prior to going to class. Students arriving between 8:30am and 8:40am will still be marked tardy, but may report directly to class.
