October 2, 2020
Dear OPA Staff and Families,
I hope that you all had great conferences with your students’ teachers this week. It was wonderful for teachers and families to be able to get together and discuss progress, goals, and expectations, even if it had to be in a virtual setting.
We are working hard to prepare for some of our students to return to school in person on October 21st. This is a monumental undertaking for our entire staff, but we want to do everything in our power to keep all of our staff, students, and families as safe as possible. We also want to ensure that both virtual and hybrid students are getting the best possible educational experiences, and that teachers are prepared to educate students in both of these modalities. To that end, we are excited that we will not have to livestream students at the same time that students will be in class. Several surrounding districts, and districts across the US, have had poor results so far with combining virtual and hybrid classes at the same time, so we are very happy that we will not have to implement this option. All virtual and hybrid cohorts are separate classes for all grade levels.
As we continue to prepare for the switch, all families, both virtual and hybrid, will be receiving important information. Please make sure to read all communications from your site administrators, teachers, and central administration, so that you are aware of any updates or changes. We will be sending out more specific information as we get closer to October 21st.
We have also been getting questions from families that want to switch cohorts. As stated previously, because of limited capacity on campus, we are not able to make any changes from virtual to hybrid until trimester 3. However, because we know that some families are worried with the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, we can make changes from hybrid to virtual. If you would like to switch your student to virtual learning, please reach out to your school chancellor.
Just a reminder, due to the return to in-person instruction, there will be no school on October 19 & 20, 2020. These days will be used to prepare for hybrid learning.
Thank you all again for your continued support and patience. Stay safe, stay healthy, and have a wonderful weekend Champions!!
