Dear OPA Families and Staff,
I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. We are entering the final stretch of the 2020-2021 school year and things are getting very busy at our school sites. Please make sure to review all communications from your champion’s school so that you don’t miss out on any important information.
This year, OPA is excited to be starting our summer Full STEAM Ahead program to provide support and enrichment for students who may have fallen slightly behind during hybrid and virtual learning. If your student qualified for the program based on assessment and academic performance indicators, you will receive a notification by Monday, May 17, 2021. Please respond to this notification as soon as possible so that we can begin scheduling and open any declined spaces to other OPA champions. We want to be able to open up this opportunity to as many champions as possible.
If you have not done so already, please complete your intent to return forms for the 2021-22 school year. Please click here to access the form for SOC. Please click here to access the form for SV. We need this information to begin planning and staffing for next year. We understand that some families are still not comfortable sending their students back to school in person; therefore, we are also asking families to choose between in person and virtual learning programs. The virtual program will have separate professors and no live-streaming, so we need this information as soon as possible from families in order to accurately staff both programs.
Chancellors will be sending out information regarding end of year testing over the next few weeks. Although testing will look different this year, we still use assessment data to inform instruction, determine what supports students need, and place students in accelerated middle school math courses. Therefore, please make sure that you emphasize the importance of these assessments with your champions, and if your champion is virtual, please provide a quiet place for testing, free from distractions. We want to make sure that our data is accurate so that we can use it to better inform our instruction for next year.
Recently the CDC came out with new guidance regarding masks. This guidance includes some changes to mask requirements when people are outside and maintaining 6 feet distance. However, this guidance did not change any of the previous guidance regarding schools. Also, when students are outside at recess, it is very difficult for them to maintain 6 feet of distance while playing games, socializing, etc. Therefore, we will continue to enforce our mask policies for the remainder of the school year, in order to ensure the safety of all of our champions.
This summer both the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA will be hosting summer camps for our OPA champions. Flyers for these programs will be sent out in the Sunday and Friday messages.
Thank you all for your continued support of our OPA champions. We look forward to all of the end of the year activities coming up. We are also very excited to be planning for a full day of in person instruction next school year. With the decreases in infections and the increases in vaccinations, we are very optimistic that we will be able to return to our regular school schedule in the fall. However, we do understand that some families may still not feel comfortable sending their students back in person, and we are therefore planning to have a fully virtual option as well.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and have a wonderful weekend OPA champions!
